OUR HISTORY:
In 1997 a 5 km "Family Walk" was organized by the Knights of Columbus of Maple following the tragic news that a fellow Knight was diagnosed with cancer. This event, spearheaded by Co-Founders Peter Badali and Dr. Greg D'Orio, was eventually named the Great Ride and Stride and became an annual event. In 2005 the walk was renamed Vaughan In Motion Walk to Cure Cancer and moved indoors at Vaughan Mills. This walk has become our signature event which has attracted walkers across Southern Ontario.

Vaughan in Motion is a 100% volunteer - staffed, not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting all cancer patients and their families who live in our community by raising vital funds for local programs aimed at prevention, early detection, and reatment of cancers.

Vaughan in Motion has partnered with the Vaughan Health Care Foundation in 2009 to raise funds towards health care programs and equipment directly aimed at prevention, early detection and treatment of cancers, as part of Vaughan's Future Hospital. Hospital service provision is now currently being planned for Vaughan, and funds raised by VIM will be held in trust geared specifically at helping cancer patients in our community. This new initiative and partnership will allow Vaughan In Motion to control where and how our donated dollars will be spent and where they will be allocated.

OUR EVENTS

Gala To Cure Cancer:
The Gala To Cure Cancer is an annual event held the last Friday in March. This year the Gala will take place on Friday, March 27th, 2009 at the Terrace Banquet Hall on Creditstone Road, just south of Rutherford in the City of Vaughan featuring SENSATION LIVE MUSIC BAND & PLATINUM MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT. This is an evening where we honour cancer survivors and pay tribute to our wonderful supporting sponsors –for without them, this event would not be possible.

The Walk to Cure Cancer:
The Walk to Cure Cancer is an annual event held the last Sunday in April. The Walk to Cure Cancer is Vaughan in Motions Signature event and will take place on Sunday,April 26th 2009 inside Vaughan Mills. Registration begins at 9:00 am; the walk starts at 10:00 am. A projected attendance of over 1000 children, teens, adults, and seniors will walk the 5 km route inside Vaughan Mills (3.5 laps). After the walk, we encourage all participants to stay and enjoy the performances of our special guests, and to visit our sponsors.

Fore the Cure to Cancer Golf Tournament:
Fore the Cure to Cancer Golf Tournament is our most recent event entering it's 3rd year in 2009. The event will be held on June 11, 2009 with tee-off at 1:30pm at the very prestigiuos championship course Lionhead Golf & Country Club.
